Michael B. Jordan Shares the Supplement He Swears by for Movie Star Physique

Michael B. Jordan has developed a reputation as a talented actor able to display his versatility across a wide range of roles. Some of his jobs, such as his lead role in his 2023 directorial debut Creed III, require intense physical training in the lead-up to filming. 

Jordan reflected on his approach to fitness in a new interview with Men’s Health. The Black Panther star tries to focus more on his health in general in his life, rather than only when it’s time to get ready for an upcoming movie. He also shared his secret weapon for his health that his been working wonders lately. 

“I started building a wellness routine as part of the preparation for my acting roles. A lot of my roles are very physical, so I do things like take supplements to help me feel strong, give myself an edge when I’m training, but also to feel generally healthy,” he said. As for what specifically has been working well for him, he espoused the gospel of sea moss. 

“Sea moss was part of my fuel source behind the fitness routines I’ve used over the years to build my characters’ physiques,” he said. “My mom has lupus, my parents are getting older, my sister was pregnant at the time. I began thinking more about my overall health and my family’s collective health. I was incorporating sea moss gel into my diet and blending it with smoothies, and I started looking around for a more accessible way to incorporate it into my day-to-day in a more streamlined way.”

Jordan is so passionate about the supplement that’s growing in popularity that he co-founded a new drink brand, aptly named MOSS. The beverages combine sea moss with organic juices, botanical extracts, and herbs and spent years getting the mixture just right for consumers to drink. 

“Sometimes people’s first impression when they add sea moss to a smoothie or drink at home isn’t ideal because of the trial and error. So we worked on a process and recipe that took about four years to perfect,” he said. “There was a lot of taste testing, a lot of trying different flavors. We have experts and nutritionists who spent countless hours refining the ingredients.”

Sea moss has been gaining recognition as a superfood in recent years, with some espousing its health benefits. The supplement is believed to be “one of the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet,” dietician Ana Reisdorf told Forbes. “It is a rich source of many vitamins, minerals, polyunsaturated fats, and anti-inflammatory compounds.” 

The supplement is high in calcium, magnesium, potassium, and iodine and is a good source of iron and vitamins A, C, and E. It’s also high in fiber and packed with prebiotics that assist in gut health. Iodine helps regulate thyroid function, making it a critical player in our metabolism, while magnesium and phosphate are known to regulate blood pressure and bolster overall heart health

Muscle recovery is another area where the supplement could be a great help. “The various nutrients in sea moss not only help build muscles and maintain muscle health but also help maintain a healthy bone structure,” family medicine physician Dr. Carrie Lam told Forbes. “This is of much importance to those on a strict exercise regime or the elderly who tend to see a loss in muscle and bone mass due to the aging process.”
