Animated Muscle Women

Animated Muscle Women has a new address. It could no longer be part of the regular wikis due to new rules about content. Apparently, it was due to a change similar to what happened to Tumblr. I guess drawing of muscular women are now considered inappropriate. The good news is that the archive has been rebuilding since that change. The wiki started in 2014 and has been growing ever since. Animated Muscle Women describes itself as “a collective database archiving muscular woman, female bodybuilders, and female muscle growth found in cartoons, anime, comics, movies, fan-made animation, and other related media that anyone can edit!” The cartoon characters are divided in comic books, western animation, and anime. More needs to be added, seeing as more muscular female characters are appearing in media. Not all are listed. Femuscleblog Archive does have a segment the focuses on muscular and athletic women in animation. The reason is because animation is a large part of media. An underappreciated art form has not gotten serious academic investigation until the late 20th century. Now animation historians do research on classic and modern works.

Wonder Woman and She-Hulk are recognizable comic book characters that have appeared in various forms of media. Muscular women also appear in western cartoons and anime.

Muscular women in animation is a small niche. However, it is part of the female muscle fandom. It connects to aspects of female muscle growth and fan art. A thriving art community exists devoted to the depiction of muscular women. This would not be possible without the internet. Forums, websites, blogs, and social media make it easier for fans to connect with one another.

Female muscle growth describes when a female character becomes strong and muscular. This can be related to other genres or fetishes. Science fiction and fantasy are common in fmg related material. There should be a way to distinguish between fmg and a regular muscular female character. A muscular female character just appears that way. There is no scientific or magical explanation for body transformation. One classification could be that a female character’s design is changed for plot or story reasons. This lasts only for a certain episode of a series.

Muscular women can appear in certain ways. Either the character starts off muscular or female muscle growth occurs. This is either a science or magical explanation for a body change.

Fmg can sometimes be used for short gags. The frequent appearance suggests that either creators have this type of fetish or it just happens to be coincidence. Portrayals are not always positive ones, but could be mocking. Other representations are more neutral. The do not express disdain or support.

Muscular female characters were not present in animation for numerous reasons. Animators and cartoonists did not have a general guide to drawing muscular women. Sometimes there objections from studios related to character design. Producers may have a different idea about what is the right character design. Animators, cartoonists, and illustrators have been drawing women in one type of way it may be hard to learn a new style. Some animators can take liberties, if their bosses do not notice. Animators at Disney had to struggle to get Luisa’s character design approved for Enchanto .

The producers wanted her to resemble their other Disney princesses. Tiny and bodies closer to Barbie are the designs used for women. Eventually, the animators were allowed to do something different. Giving a character a unique look makes them memorable. Luisa’s merchandise is selling. So there is no reason not to expand add variety to the character design. Every studio or artist has their signature. Making changes or occasionally deviating from that will not harm the quality of animation. Producers and executives should allow the artists to experiment with character design. A unique aesthetic will get a cartoon character noticed. Animation is appearing on TV, the internet, and film. The art form started off as short subjects , then to feature films, and now can be seen on TV on a daily basis.

The animation industry is going through a immense transformation. Streaming platforms are delivering it to millions of viewers around the world. Adult animation has become a large segment of the industry. The Simpsons, South Park, and Family Guy are no longer the only shows in the adult animation genre. Anime has become a major force internationally. The world has become familiar with Japan through their animated works. This shows that globalization also has impacted culture. New characters will appear. Some will be long lasting and others will become historical relics. One noticeable change is the emphasis on giving female characters more spotlight and more diverse character design. CGI, virtual reality, and new creative ideas will radically change animation. Changes are also coming from other areas in the industry. Muscular women appearing in cartoons is a small change, but is a development of interest. Whether this will have an immense impact has yet to be seen.
