Shake Shack is launching a brand-new, limited-time “swicy” menu featuring umami flavors for those that can’t get enough of that sweet and spicy kick. The menu will debut at Shake Shacks across America on Friday, January 12, but Shack aficionados can get exclusive access beginning today in the Shake Shack app.

Shake Shack’s “swicy” menu will premiere several new sweet and spicy treats, including a Gochujang-Glazed Chicken Sandwich made with Choi’s Kimchi. Choi’s is a Portland-based, family-owned business that uses a small-batch process to produce authentic kimchi. The company was founded by Chong Choi, who began selling kimchi based on her grandmother’s recipe after emigrating to Oregon from Korea.

Shake Shack describes the Gochujang-glazed chicken sandwich as “crispy, white-meat chicken breast coated in a spicy and sweet Gochujang glaze, sprinkled with sesame seeds, and topped with white kimchi slaw, featuring Choi’s Kimchi, on a toasted potato bun.”

“I’ve been making kimchi since my childhood growing up in Korea by following a handcrafted, small batch process passed down in my family for generations. I’m happy that our small business is once again working with Shake Shack to bring a piece of Choi’s Kimchi to homes in America,” Choi told Men’s Journal.

Meanwhile, umami lovers can help themselves to Shake Shack’s Korean BBQ Burger. It’s crafted from a “100 percent Angus beef cheeseburger topped with crispy sweet onions, fresh scallions, and a savory, salty Korean BBQ sauce on a toasted potato bun.”

The new menu isn’t limited to just sandwiches and burgers, though. Shake Shack is also “swicying” up their sides, offering Korean BBQ french fries in their signature seasoned or cheesy varietals. The Spicy Korean BBQ Fries feature Shake Shack’s crinkle-cut potatoes topped with “kimchi seasoning and served with a side of Korean BBQ sauce.” Spicy Korean BBQ Cheese Fries, on the other hand, feature the same components as the regular BBQ fries, but with a generous portion of cheese sauce on top.

“Our new menu puts a twist on Shake Shack classics, inspired by the amazing flavors and ingredients of Korean cuisine including Gochujang, kimchi, and bulgogi,” John Karangis, Shake Shack’s Executive Chef and Vice President of Culinary Innovation, told us. “We’re always seeking out ways to bring fun and delicious menu offerings to our guests, and the ‘swicy’ and heavy umami flavors in these new items do just that.”

Shake Shack’s new “swicy” menu will hit stores nationwide on Friday, January 12. If you just can’t wait, though, the restaurant is offering exclusive early access to users of the Shake Shack app.
