For decades, Nike has driven innovation in the running shoe category. Through it all, the brand’s signature running sneaker, the Pegasus, has been there. Now celebrating its 40th birthday, the Pegasus remains the everyday trainer that runners consistently come back to.

Right now, the Pegasus 40 is discounted to $91, a 30% discount on its $130 list price. Several colors are discounted to $104, but the Black/Sail/Jade Ice, University Red/Midnight Navy, and Black/Light Crimson colorways are available for $91. Plus, Nike is offering an extra 20% to members with code HEART, or 25% off if you click through and shop in the app (membership is free), making the price $73 and $68, respectively. That means you can actually score a 55% discount.

In terms of running, the Peg 40 isn’t the most exciting, but that doesn’t have to be a bad thing. Previous Peg runners can appreciate, as Nike puts it, the “familiar, just-for-you feel.” It’s a neutral runner, as opposed to a stability shoe, making it versatile for different kinds of runners and runs. The shoes feature Nike’s reliable React foam and Zoom Air bubbles in the heel and forefoot for springiness. The toes and arch were tweaked to improve comfort. The heel-to-toe drop is 10 millimeters, and a size 10 weighs 288 grams.

Shoppers appreciated these as a shoe that they could come back to, with one writing of the “no frills” shoes, “People who run Pegs every year know that this is going to deliver excellent stability, comfort, and durability for the next 300 miles.” Another reviewer agreed, writing, “As an avid runner, the Pegasus has consistently remained as a go-to in my running shoe rotation.”

One shopper said they had depended on Pegasus sneakers for 15 years, writing, “They have been on my [feet] for countless half marathons and 5 full marathons,” and another wrote that they “completed many miles during half marathon training.” Many shoppers also appreciated the shoe for walking, gym sessions, or casual wear.

This classic shoe has been around for 40 years, but the Pegasus 40 won’t be in stock forever at this price, so you’ll want to act fast.
