Mets Announcer Caught On Camera Rolling Eyes Over Rain Delay

It’s been a wet week for much of the east coast. But despite rain in the forecast, the New York Mets decided to solider on with plans for Tuesday night’s game against the Detroit Tigers, which led to an inevitable rain delay. And longtime Mets announcer Gary Cohen couldn’t hide his irritation in an awkward, on-camera moment.

Officials had reportedly hoped that there would be a window between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. that the game could be played, but decided to call the delay around 6:25 p.m. As Cohen and his co-announcer Keith Hernandez waited it out with fans, however, it was becoming increasingly clear that the rain was not going to let up.

“We’ll be here when the game starts and until then, you guys just get the snacks that you can and try and keep nourished,” Cohen told viewers at home with the grim smile of a man who knew he had made the trip to Queens for nothing. After holding for a few beats, and incorrectly assuming the feed had been cut, his face dropped into a scowl and he dramatically rolled his eyes.

“Gary Cohen does not look like he wants to be at Citi Field tonight,” the Talkin’ Baseball social media account quipped.

But it would appear that Cohen’s demeanor spoke for all Mets fans who came out on Tuesday, as evidenced by the reactions to the gaffe.

“The Mets will do that to you…” wrote one fan. “I love it! He’s one of us,” wrote another. Others likewise expressed similar sentiments.

In fact, the game was called shortly after 9 p.m. The makeup game for the rain delay will take place at 1 p.m. on Thursday afternoon, but with more rain in the forecast, Wednesday’s 7:10 p.m. game will also likely be in jeopardy.
