Jared Leto Pranked ‘Wheel of Fortune’ Audience for April Fool’s Day

Wheel of Fortune viewers were treated to a surprise at the beginning of Monday’s new episode, which happened to coincide with April Fool’s Day. Instead of being greeted by longtime hosts Pat Sajak and Vanna White, as has been the case for decades, White instead walked out on the arm of none other than Morbius star Jared Leto.

“Here are the stars of our show, Jared Leto and Vanna White,” the announcer said as the pair strolled out on to the stage, waving to the audience as if it were the most normal thing in the entire world. “Thank you,” Leto said before turning to his co-host and telling her to have a great show.

“All right everybody, grab those devices, it’s time to give away some money,” Leto continued, approaching the three contestants before the wheel. “A $1000 in our first toss-up, the category is ‘On the Map.'”

According to People, shortly after, the episode resumed with Sajak in charge of hosting duties with apparently “no further mention of Leto’s surprise appearance.” The 52-year-old actor, who also appeared at the 2024 iHeartRadio Music Awards Monday night, later posted a clip of his guest spot to his Instagram Story, asking “How’d I do?”

Leto’s cheeky prank comes as Sajak prepares to ride off into the sunset at the conclusion of the game show’s 41st season in a few months. The 77-year-old first announced his impending departure on social media in June 2023.

“Well, the time has come. I’ve decided that our 41st season, which begins in September, will be my last,” Sajak wrote at the time. “It’s been a wonderful ride, and I’ll have more to say in the coming months. Many thanks to you all.”

However, if anyone was wondering if Leto was perhaps soft launching a new career in syndicated television; fear not. Unlike the fracas with choosing a new Jeopardy! host, Ryan Seacrest was revealed to be taking over the gig shortly after Sajak broke the news last year.
