The Rock Recreates Iconic Meme of Himself in Holiday Address to Fans

Halloween has come and gone, but that didn’t stop Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson from recreating an iconic meme of himself for a Christmas greeting to fans. The Central Intelligence star hopped on Instagram on Monday to show off a stunning recreation of his much-discussed ‘90s model shots while singing a Christmas classic. “Merry Christmas, from your keepin’ it ? friend,” the caption reads.

Walking down the halls of his opulently decorated home, Johnson sings for fans his own version of Mel Tormé’s “The Christmas Song” as he shows off a stunningly accurate recreation of his own look. “I’m walking down the hall, looking cool as f–k,” The Rock sings along to the melody. “Just take one look at my amazing clothes…Merry Christmas from ‘90s Rock,” he concludes the clip.
Johnson’s frequent co-star Kevin Hart weighed in with a series of crying-laughing emojis, while fellow actor Vivica A. Fox simply wrote, “Nailed it.”
Other fans praised Johnson’s self-awareness and costume prowess in equal measure. “How massive of a star do you have to be to successfully wear a costume of yourself?” wondered user franco.mabata. “The legend is back!” wrote another.
Johnson has had fun with his ‘90s persona before, previously dressing up in 2017 to recreate the infamous portrait. He commented explicitly on the look last year in an interview with E! News’ Daily Pop. He joked that, at the time, his fanny pack held the numbers of various women “and stuff like that,” in addition to “a lot of inappropriate things I can’t mention right now.”
In the same interview, he defended the much-derided look as a trend of the time. “In the world of pro-wrestling in the ’90s, everyone had a fanny pack,” Johnson explained. “But the one that stands out, and then makes the headlines looking like an idiot, is right here.”
Johnson has been especially active this holiday season. Last week, he went viral after surprising visitors at a New York City toy store, where he paid the bill for their gifts.
