Nike has been known for years as an authority in the sneaker world, with a wide array of options for adults including its Air Jordan line and many celebrity collaborations. Kids have also been able to join in on the fun, as have babies who can walk and handle taking steps in the sneakers. For a long time, however, babies who are just learning how to take their first steps have been left out of the picture.

Luckily, the company now has something for the little one in your life just learning how to put one foot in front of the other. The new Nike Swoosh 1 shoes for babies and toddlers are made from the brand’s soft, breathable Flyknit fabric and “designed to help support our earliest walkers as they take their first steps and discover the world on their own two feet.” The kicks were created with the same methodology Nike has used when developing other kids’ shoe models: to “study kids’ needs, lead with kids’ insights, and create kid-specific innovations that uniquely serve them.”

Natural gait development is a crucial component in those early months of walking. The Swoosh 1’s flexibility and wide toe box allow the wearers to feel as if they were barefoot while taking every step. “Our feet need to bend, flex, grip and splay in order to develop how they’re naturally intended to,” Nike explained. “Reflecting the close attention Nike paid to this research, the Swoosh 1 is the first Nike Kids shoe ever to receive the American Podiatric Medical Association Seal of Acceptance, a mark signaling how the shoe can help promote natural foot development.”

The Swoosh 1s are available worldwide in sizes 3C through 7C. If you want your baby to be rocking some top-tier sneakers from the minute they’re able to take a step, these might be the shoes for you.
