John Stamos Forgot Filming This Movie Sequel Amid Alcoholism

John Stamos has been a household name for decades. But even with that success, that doesn’t mean the onetime soap star hasn’t struggled behind the scenes. In 2015, he was arrested for a DUI, and the days after the incident ended up being a turning point in his life.
Stamos recounted the aftermath of his arrest in his new memoir If You Would Have Told Me. “I was just with Rita Wilson and Nia [Vardalos] in Greece and I realized, I forgot that the next day [after the arrest] they said, ‘Oh, you got to go to Toronto, you’re in My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2,'” he remembered. “I’m like, ‘What?’ I was hammered. I don’t remember being on that set.'”
Stamos’ time playing a Greek news anchor in the 2016 film might have been a blur, but after he was done filming his scene he was quickly snapped back into reality.
“As soon as I came back from Toronto and My Big Fat Greek Wedding, my sisters were there and my agents, and everybody was like, ‘Okay! It’s time,'” he recalled. “It wasn’t even an intervention. It was like, ‘We packed your bags, you’re going.”
The forced vacation, for lack of a better term, ended up being the best thing for him. “I went [to rehab] for 30 days, and I just knew it was time,” he confessed. Since then, he hasn’t gone back to his dangerous habit. “That’s it. I’ve not had a drink since eight years ago,” he said proudly.
Sadly, Stamos didn’t get to reprise his role in My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 earlier this year.
