Jacob Elordi might be one of Hollywood’s most in-demand leading men right now, but there’s one genre he’s not looking to dip his toe in: superhero films. In fact, he turned down a prominent opportunity to try out for the role of Superman.

Elordi opened up to GQ in a new interview, where he discussed turning down the role.

“Well, they asked me to read for Superman,” he said. “That was immediately, ‘No, thank you.’ That’s too much. That’s too dark for me.”

He went on to explain that the genre isn’t something he’s very interested in at the current moment.

“Not particularly, no,” he said of his desire to play a superhero. “I’ve always been told to say a rounded answer or my agent will get mad at me. ‘Anything can happen!’ And obviously anything can happen, but at this stage in my life, I don’t see myself having any interest in that. I like to make what I would watch, and I get very restless watching those movies.”

Although he didn’t name the Superman project, it seems likely that it’s the upcoming 2025 James Gunn film Superman: Legacy.

Elordi also expressed a dismissive attitude towards his breakout role in the Kissing Booth films on Netflix.

“I didn’t want to make those movies before I made those movies,” he said. “Those movies are ridiculous. They’re not universal. They’re an escape.” He added that he doesn’t like the “one for them, one for me” mentality of picking Hollywood projects.

“That one’s a trap as well. Because it can become 15 for them, none for you. You have no original ideas and you’re dead inside. So it’s a fine dance,” he said. “My ‘one for them,’ I’ve done it.”

It certainly seems like the Euphoria star has a strong sense of what he does and doesn’t want to do with his career going forward.
