Former NFL running back and Super Bowl champ Derrick Ward has been arrested in Los Angeles on suspicion of robbery. Local police took the area native into custody on Monday afternoon. Incarceration records, reviewed by TMZ, indicate that Ward was later booked into prison around 6:30 pm PST. He’s being held on a $250,000 bond, according to Sportskeeda.

Little information about Ward’s alleged crime spree has been made available. However, according to TMZ, he’s suspected of robbing several area businesses, including a few gas stations, over a fairly recent period. The former NFL star did not use a gun during the incidents, so he won’t be charged with armed robbery. However, TMZ reported that he “did use force and fear” to extort money from the businesses.

At this time, Ward has not publicly commented on the charges against him.

Ward was a seventh-round pick for the New York Jets in 2004. He also played for the NY Giants, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the Houston Texans during his eight years in the NFL. At one point, Ward was signed to a $17 million contract. In 2008, he won a Super Bowl ring when he defeated Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in Arizona.

Ward played in 93 NFL games throughout his career. He boasts 15 total touchdowns, 12 of them rushing.

This is a developing story. Check back later for more information.
